A website can outlive the moment that made it.

People change. Campaigns end. Systems move underneath it. A page made for one afternoon remains for years, while something still important slips out of sight. None of this means the original work was careless. It means the object has lived.

Restoration attends to that life. It finds the intention still present in the work, the history worth keeping, and the accumulated changes that now stand in its way.

Begin with its condition

Restoration is not painting over every mark or returning everything to an imagined first day. Before anything is changed, the object must be seen as a whole: what it is trying to be, what still serves it, what has drifted, and what quietly broke.

The first room in this wing begins with an examination and a written condition report. Once the condition is known, the report may stand on its own or the work that matters may be restored.
